AMILCAR USA MAGAZINE: New York, opening of Maison BARNES, the first place to live by the luxury real estate player

by AMILCAR USA

AMILCAR USA MAGAZINE: MAISON BARNES offers the French art of living to New Yorkers.

In this architectural gem, art nouveau influences and unique vintage pieces give it a timeless appeal. From etched glass to sculpted wrought iron, gilded bronze, polished stone, copper and varnished wood, each element has been carefully selected to reflect the exceptional craftsmanship that lies at the heart of Maison Barnes, from luxury to the pure state.

More than a lounge bar and a restaurant with private reception rooms, Maison Barnes aims to be a place that celebrates the French art of living in the heart of Manhattan, the temple of know-how and excellence. Located at  575 Park Avenue Upper East Side,  in the famous Beekman building, the restaurant offers a global experience where hospitality, gastronomy and experiences around the art of living combine.

With its decoration inspired by the Belle Epoque, Maison Barnes takes you back to the golden age of Paris. Its intimate garden, bordered by trellises, gives the impression of a private space where you can sit comfortably to taste wine and cuisine straight from France. French craftsmanship also finds its place in the place, thanks in particular to the touches of verdigris metal, the walnut furniture and the painted ceilings, inspired by the Grand Palais.

The interior spaces are also designed by the French decorative painter Stéphanie de Ricou, particularly known for her work on numerous historical monuments such as the Hôtel de la Marine, the Hôtel Lutecia and the Château de Versailles. On the Maison Barnes project, she was accompanied by Kevin Ouvré, whose work inspired by Saint-Barthélemy is found in the murals of banana leaves and palm trees. Together, Stéphanie de Ricou and Kevin Ouvré create a lively decoration, where each room displays its own identity, often characterized by surprising ornaments in unexpected places, such as a staircase wrapped in velvet draperies or a corridor decorated with hand-painted vines. the hand.

French craftsmanship and luxury in the spotlight

As an ambassador of the French art of living, Maison BARNES presents unique and limited edition objects, made by the artisans of the most renowned French Maisons, such as Christofle, Bernardaud, Hermès, Saint-Louis and many others. others. Curiosity cabinets are full of treasures such as Christofle’s “Elephas Maximus”, a sterling silver elephant weighing almost 15kg with intricate details, of which only twenty examples were made.

A “Harlequin” chandelier in crystal, amethyst and chartreuse signed by Maison Saint-Louis, dominates the bar room. Pieces made in collaboration with Bernardaud artists, including plates from the “Je te mangerais dans la main” collection by JR and Prune Nourry, as well as a monkey in a balloon by Jeff Koons, are among the many pieces in a collection which will change depending on the period.

An Eiffel bar

Maison BARNES’ Lounge Bar is fast becoming the Upper East Side’s premier drinking destination, whether you like to perch on a terracotta velvet bar stool or sit back in a plush turquoise bench. The cocktail collection includes the “Parfait, Perfect”, made with Belvedere vodka and Comoz de Chambéry vermouth. Among the emblematic cocktails, the “Beekman”, whose name pays homage to the address of Maison Barnes, made with rye, Bénédictine and green Izarra.

Among the champagnes, the Maxime Ponson Blanc de Blancs, favorite of sommeliers, completes a selection of up to twenty wines by the glass. Lovers of white Burgundy will be delighted to find the Meursault “Les Corbins” from Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur.

While the wine list by the glass is essentially French, there are also a handful of prestigious American wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon from Waterhorse Ridge, in Seaview (California). And to accompany the drinks, there are numerous appetizers for which the restaurant is renowned, such as bar bites, Comté gougères or shellfish gratinated with pastis.

A traditional, but exceptional menu

Chef Daniel Boulud has always celebrated traditional French cuisine, which finds its place perfectly at  Maison BARNES , which wants its guests to spend time around a dinner that is both refined and relaxed. Thus, the menu pays homage to the classic dishes of French gastronomy, while emphasizing the most refined seasonal products. For example, you can enjoy a scallop salad with black truffle or a venison and juniper terrine with pear chutney and gin.

Dishes worthy of Auguste Escoffier are also on the menu, such as Normandy sole with rice and seaweed butter, composed of poached sole, shrimp, mussels, button mushrooms or beef tournedos with maturini sauce and dauphine potatoes. For dessert, you will find a caramel and vanilla Saint-Honoré, or a grand cru chocolate cake with an espresso sabayon. Dishes to share celebrate tradition and conviviality, such as sea bass in Choron sauce or the duo of chicken and lobster with nantua sauce.
