The Sofitel New York unveils a complete renovation project, heralding a new era of luxury in the heart of Manhattan .
Sofitel New York, an emblem of French elegance located in the heart of Manhattan, today unveils a complete renovation project. An announcement which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the brand celebrated this year, and which symbolizes a real turning point for Sofitel – a reflection of its commitment to innovative and ever more refined luxury.
A renovation which will begin at the end of 2024
The renovation project covers the entire Sofitel New York – including its 398 rooms (including 51 suites and a presidential suite). The One Bedroom suites, emblems of the hotel, which offer a breathtaking view of the city, as well as the Terrace suites with their splendid private outdoor terraces and their breathtaking view of the Chrysler and the Empire State Building, will be thus renovated. The transformation will also extend to the lobby, meeting rooms, elevators and the corridors used by customers.
This highly anticipated renovation of the Sofitel New York, a true haven of peace in the heart of the bustle of Manhattan, will begin at the end of 2024 and will continue until fall 2025.
An Art Deco universe, symbol of the French art of living
For more than twenty years, the Sofitel New York has represented the French art of living in the heart of New York. Imagined by the designers of HBA San Francisco, renowned for their design of spaces that arouse emotions and nourish curiosity, the current design of the hotel is a subtle blend between Parisian Art Deco and the glamor of Manhattan from the 1990s. 1940.
The renovation project continues the concept, marrying Parisian style and the urban spirit of New York. Inspired by the Art Deco movement, between the architectural beauty of the New York skyline and the influence that French fashion and art had on the city, the design intends to create a dialogue between modernity and timeless elegance. Patterns derived from Art Deco and Art Moderne, combined with various influences from French fashion, will be associated with more complex details and the finest materials, for refined luxury. Works of art will bring a vibrant touch to the spaces, symbolizing the artistic dynamism of New York – chic and sassy, bold and sophisticated.
The chosen color palette will balance bold and elegant with black, gray, white and gold tones in the background, and enhance works of art with metallic accents that will attract attention. Contrasts that echo French luxury, where every detail is carefully thought out, where each element plays a role in the overall composition, where craftsmanship arouses admiration and where innovation pushes the boundaries of the conventional.
The hotel’s original stones will remain visible within the entrance, enhanced by black marble and wood, complemented by black tones on the walls and gold metallic ornaments. A giant work of art will be installed behind the reception, creating a striking contrast of light.
A sculptural light installation will be placed in the center of the grand staircase, inspired by the movement of a ballerina’s tutu. The carpet in the meeting and event rooms will be inspired by the Art Deco patterns of major Parisian fashion houses such as Balmain and Gaultier, combining shades of black, white and gold with linear and symmetrical patterns. A carefully thought-out approach, which combines the timeless charm of Paris with the boundless energy of New York, for a unique urban experience.
The revival of Sofitel New York
To begin this brand new chapter, Dieter Schmitz – a seasoned hotelier with more than twenty years of experience, has just been appointed General Manager of Sofitel New York. An appointment that invites him to return to New York, where he will devote himself fully to the rejuvenation of the hotel.
“I am thrilled to return to New York, especially at such an exciting time for Sofitel New York,” said Mr. Schmitz. “With its ideal location and this upcoming renovation project, I look forward to showcasing our future facility to the world.” Our team is committed to achieving excellence and providing a personalized experience to each of our customers. We are taking the hotel to the next level, ensuring it remains an iconic destination in the city. »
